Where are all the Golf Buddies

During the winter months, how can we get together with our golf buddies?

It's easy to enjoy time with the "guys" even without the golf bag. After all, most of us are pretty simple to please. Cold beer, sports, and a nice pair of...sunglasses ;) and we're all set. There's one venue that, if played correctly, can offer most of this and much more. A stop at the local casino can provide more than just an empty wallet and a headache.

Casinos offer a wide open venue where a guy can be a guy. Think about it...flat screen televisions, comfortable chairs, priceless people-watching, cold drinks, and games, games, games.

The thrill of chance and ringing of the slots can sound similar to sexy sirens on a far-off vessel, but if you play it smart and stick to the plan, you can make it out with a good time and enough dough to hit the value menu on the way home - a couple times.

First and foremost, a responsible casino-goer will determine their allowable monies lost, or budget. Note: recommend determination before the suds hit your lips, and definitely before you "fill it up again!". Besides, nothing says "bad-guys-night-out" like waking up clothed, and alone with a headache, foggy memory, AND no money in your wallet. By the way, leave the ATM card at home...really.

If you and your buds get there early enough, a poker room may be a good way to enjoy yourselves. Everyone can hang together while playing a skill based game that can be budget friendly into the wee hours of the morn'.

Most people go to the casino willing to pay some money for the entertainment that the casino provides. However, if you're like me, you'd rather be going home a winner. To increase your odds at success, try playing games that offer the lowest percentage of "house edge". The top 5 games in this category are:
1) Craps, .6%;
2) Blackjack, .8%;
3) Baccarat, 1.63%;
4) Pai Gow Poker, 2.5%;
5) Roulette, 2.7%

If you'd rather spectate, then the Sports Book may provide the entertainment you're looking for. Who would have thought the hours already spent watching numerous games at home, could actually be "training". Well, it's time to put the training into practice, so fill up yer cup, kick up your feet and drop twenty on the nightly ballgame. For about the price of a movie, you can enjoy a few hours of entertainment, with the random chance of doubling your investment.

No matter how you decide to spend your time (and money) at the casino, remember to play responsibly and enjoy your night out with the guys. Don't worry; work and women will be there when you're done.

Winter's not here yet. With the sun expected to shine this weekend, and temps pushing 60, this may be this season's last chance to enjoy a round of golf.

As you know the swing is always smoother with a few extra bucks in your pocket. So, don't miss out on this great deal.

Majestic at Lake Walden - Only $30 for 18 (including cart) or play all 27 for $40.

Have fun.

As fall begins to usher in winter, this season's golf memories begin to fade. Here's a course to keep in mind for next spring, or yet this year if weather cooperates.

Crooked Tree Golf Course
600 Crooked Tree Drive, Petoskey, MI

One of Boyne's family of courses, this gem offers a unique taste of Upper Michigan flavor, coupling breathtaking views with pristine conditions. I had a chance to play this track for the first time this summer, and left knowing one day I will surely return.

Although the layout was challenging, it was certainly fair, and one that can be enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. A certain risk/reward charm will offer a variety of shot options around every corner.

Hole 8 (par 3 181) was my favorite. Beware...the view from the tee, of Little Traverse Bay, can lull you into thinking this hole can be had. Make sure to take an extra club to avoid the up-close view of the wetlands short of the green.
